Palin to Visit the Statue of Liberty

Palin to Visit the Statue of Liberty

By MICHAEL D. SHEAR

After days of keeping her itinerary a secret, Sarah Palin on Wednesday sent a Twitter message about her plans for the day, telling reporters and others that she planned to visit Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty.

?We?ll highlight the beauty of legal immigrants? work ethic and love of freedom while visiting Ellis Island & Statute of Liberty today,? she wrote on her Blackberry Wednesday morning.

The visit was hardly difficult to predict. Ms. Palin, the former governor of Alaska, arrived in New York City on Tuesday evening and spent time with Donald J. Trump, as noted by my colleague Trip Gabriel. Reporters had assumed she would visit the city?s monuments.

Rumor has it that she is headed to New Hampshire by the end of the week.

Ms. Palin has spent very little time talking with the news media since her bus tour began over the Memorial Day weekend. But her one extended interview, with Fox News?s Greta Van Susteren, was shown Tuesday night.

In it, Ms. Palin defended her treatment of reporters, saying that she did not owe them anything and wanted them to ?work a little? for their stories. She also touched on foreign policy, saying that she opposed giving Egypt $2 billion in aid as its government transitions to democratic rule.

?Prove that you are going to do this first instead of hey, ?Here?s $2 billion that we had to borrow. We?ll give this to you and we will cross our fingers and hope it does some good,?? she told Ms. Van Susteren. ?I?d like to see that reversed.?
